The Virtue of Reciting the Dua After Ablution (Wudu)

Wudu, or ablution, is an integral act of purification in Islam, performed before Salat and other acts of worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught a remarkable supplication to recite after completing wudu, one that carries immense spiritual rewards. This article will discuss the dua after ablution, its wording, and the virtues associated with it.

The Dua Following Wudu

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
"Whoever performs wudu thoroughly and recites this supplication, the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through any of them he chooses:"

Transliteration:
Ash-hadu al lā ilaha illallāhu wahdahū lā sharīka lahū, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhū wa rasūluh.
Translation:
"I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, Alone without any partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and Messenger."

(Sahih Muslim 234)

An Additional Supplication to Enhance the Dua

You can also include this additional prayer after wudu:

In Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ
Transliteration:
Allāhummaj ‘alnī minat tawwābīna, waj’alnī minal mutatahhirīn.
Translation:
"O Allah, make me among those who constantly repent and those who purify themselves."

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 55)

The Reward and Wisdom Behind This Practice

Reciting these duas after completing wudu not only opens the doors of Jannah but also reinforces the significance of spiritual purity and repentance in a Muslim’s daily life. By integrating this practice into our routine, we fulfill a sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and elevate our acts of worship. Let this be a step toward strengthening your connection with Allah.
